Safe Streets Campaign is participating in International Conference to Advance Women's Rights and Justice


The Safe Streets Campaign participated in a conference held by Association of Women's Rights in Development AWID in Istanbul 16-22 April, 2012 on "Transforming Economic Power to Advance Women's Rights and Justice"

During the conference Ghaidaa Al-Absi the representative and the leader of Safe Streets campaign, presented on sexual harassment in the Yemeni streets, and the strategy of Safe Streets campaign, which aims to reduce the phenomenon of sexual harassment and to draw public opinion to form a law of succession of the harassers. The conference also discussed about sexual harassment in the Arab Spring in Yemen and Egypt.

The conference was attended by more than 500 participants from Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. The conference is organized by AWID, which considered as the largest conference outside the UN, and it hosted activists in Women's rights and development.

The conference aims to review the economic forces and their impact on women and to facilitate channels of communication between working groups of activists in women's rights and development, justice, and building more effective strategies.

It is worth mentioning that Safe Streets Campaign is Anti-Streets sexual Harassment on the streets in Yemen. It is run by Safe Streets Fundation, and their main partner is Development House. The campaign aims to monitor cases of harassment and encourage community and women in particular to break the silence and talk about it to develop solutions for this issue.
